Tuition and Fees Massachusetts College of Art and Design Acalog ACMS

industrial design programs

Our graduates leave our program with the visual design and making skills, knowledge, theories and methods to take on the types of unstructured problems that industry continually faces. ArtCenter’s Industrial Design master’s degree program currently offers two tracks to deepen your expertise and meet your professional goals. The Industrial Design Program prepares students to be creative, practical, user-centered, aesthetics-focused, problem-solving, and opportunity-exploring designers, design strategists, or design leaders. If, for example, the art school determines that students from a specific country do not have a high likelihood of accepting an offer from SAIC, its officials may spend less marketing in that country. It also helps with planning for class size and sections, with SAIC officials having a more accurate outlook on which students are likely to end up on campus. Teens and adults can test-drive careers in manufacturing during a series of free Introduction to CNC Machining camps offered by the Marshall Advanced Manufacturing Center (MAMC).

School of Design

Industrial design students create beautiful, meaningful, and sustainable design solutions. With equal emphasis on design thinking and the craft of making, we challenge you to push material boundaries and identify unique opportunities. You’ll learn to master the entire design process, from iteration to validation, as you collaborate with classmates, renowned faculty, and leading industry partners. A minor in Furniture is available to Industrial Design students who like designing and making and are interested in launching a personal practice.

Additional studios, shops, and labs

Students are prepared with visual design skills and the knowledge, theories and methods they’ll need to take on the types of unstructured problems that industry continually faces. The multidisciplinary nature of design thinking and design research, combined with students with unique academic and professional experiences create an educationally-rich space of interdisciplinary minds within the MID program. Their expertise is often sought in a wide variety of administrative arenas to assist in developing industry standards, regulatory guidelines, and quality control procedures to improve manufacturing operations and products.

The 10 Best Art Therapy Schools in the US

Industrial designers can work in a variety of sectors and design all types of products including vehicles, water bottles, and pencils. Professionals in this field require advanced sketching skills to be able to communicate a concept on paper and in digital form through computer rendering programs. In our classrooms, senior students engage in an expansive exploration of their roles in product and service systems design, brand and experience design, and design entrepreneurship. Collaborative studio work often involves prestigious Atlanta clients like Coca-Cola, Emory Healthcare, the CDC, NCR, MailChimp, Chick-fil-A, and Porsche, providing real-world experience. Senior students culminate their learning in a capstone design project, applying their comprehensive skills to solve significant problems. Many opt for interdisciplinary collaboration with engineers, combining design problem-solving with functionality to create effective, real-world solutions.

Careers

Each year, Variety curates a list of the top film school programs across North America. From universities that are as old (or older) than the moving picture itself, to budding programs, the schools on this list collectively offer an impressive array of educators, facilities and lessons to be learned. Countless alumni from these programs have become legendary names in the industry. They have created award-winning films and television series, enacted change both on-screen and behind-the-scenes, and often give back to the institutions that fostered their talent.

These associations allow students to bond with like-minded thinkers and to support one another as they change the world, one object at a time. From custom electrotherapy solutions to innovative takes on the classic walking cane, the school’s most recent batch of graduates proves that they have what it takes to rethink and improve upon our most oft-used items. It needs to have resources and state-of-the-art technology where students can bring their work to life. Practitioners look for ways to make the everyday objects we use, whether they be toys or computers or furniture, more pleasing to the touch and to the eye.

The Bachelor of Science in Industrial Design is comprised of 120 semester units. The program prepares designers for professional practice, whose function will be to help shape the products and systems produced by industrial processes. The curriculum includes studies in rapid visualization, aesthetics, materials and processes, presentation techniques, design methodology, product development, human factors, product costing, and financing principles. Students often have an opportunity to work directly with industry professionals through internships or as team members on sponsored projects.

Graduate Academic Support

Daeya Shealy '21 (Industrial Design) earned a Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange for Young Professionals fellowship to study and work as a designer in Germany for one year. ArtCenter is a private nonprofit fully accredited by the WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC). Renowned for both its ties to industry and social impact initiatives, the College is the first design school to receive the United Nations’ Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) status. Virtual Reality labs allow students to explore digital models in three dimensions. Working alongside experts from institutions across the world, students and researchers in the Center help governments and nonprofits improve and evaluate critical infrastructure for responsible urban growth.

You will develop the aesthetic sensitivity, technical competence, and the analytical thinking needed to improve the user experience and design products that meet human needs. In order to become an industrial designer, students need a four-year bachelor’s degree, though most also earn a master’s degree to remain competitive in the job market. Many programs are offered online given the digital nature of the role, but some of the most reputable programs in the U.S. are in-person. The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that opportunities in this field will grow by six percent in the next decade, a much higher growth rate than other professions.

Our Master’s program is designed to turn professionals from a wide range of fields into design leaders ready to meet this moment with confidence. Whether you choose to enter the industry or pave your own path as an entrepreneur, you’ll leave with the tools you need for a meaningful career. Before diving into their chosen major, every undergraduate participates in the First Year Experience. Students explore a wide range of materials and tools over the course of two semesters. Faculty from different disciplines guide studio projects, group critiques, and theoretical discussions, setting students up for success throughout their major coursework.
